Hello all BND-campaigners!

And here is the results from the Norwegian jury... NullkjØpdagen (-as we call Buy Nothing Day here in Noway) was a hit!

It was celebrated in Oslo, Bergen, Kristiansand and Stavern. The biggest events were here in Oslo. We started the day (or the night, to be specific) with putting up posters all over the city. In the morning we put up a stand in the middle of the busiest shopping street. On the stand we had a shopping-free zone, were we offered people free coffee and Christmas cookies, and a rest in our comfotable sofas. We also had a nice Christmas tree in the street, neatly decorated with reciepts, pictures of underwear models (in stead of angels) and a mobile phone in the top.

We handed out leaflets which promoted NullkjØpdagen as a free alternative to the consumption culture. The leaflets included challenging questions, concrete alternatives and information about BND.

One of our activists performed a great one-man-show in the street. He just ran around stand area with lots of stuffed plastic bags, clothes an things everywhere, hurrying through the crowd from one shop to the other, until he collapsed and crawled into the shopping-free zone. Three of the activists had another street performance. They walked through a shopping center with their hands full of bags, screaming to each other through the mobile phone and bragging about how much they had bought so far today, and how happy it had made them.

Reactions from people were of course mixed, but we got a lot of media attention. We were on the biggest national news show on TV, a couple of national radio stations, several local radios and som local and regional papers. And media still call us...

OK. Well done, everybody! Wish you all a merry Christmas (with home made gifts, I suppose), and a happy 1998.
