Three bands and barter market in Panama

(By
Mir from Defensa Ambiental)
Panama City - Defensa Ambiental, a small environmental group based in Panama, central America, has assembled a group of volunteers to organize for BND. Last week they started postering around the city.

On Thursday on rush hour we will distribute thousands of leaflets, as well as on Friday (BND here is Friday) early morning. The rest of the morning we will park in front of a mall and talk to people and give out more leaflets.
On Friday afternoon we will have a music festival with three bands and a barter market, we will be inviting people to bring their old CDs, clothes, books, unised gifts and so on. It will be a commercial-free space in the University of Panama.

Hopefully the media will respond to our press releases (to be sent in a couple of days). Last year we got a TV interview and pictures in a newspaper. And we expect some friends of ours who have a street theater troupe to have some activities of their own.
Why are we doing this? Some of you from richer countries might be wondering if there is also excessive consummerism in the 'third world'. Well, yes, there is. Large corporations have been looking for consumers in these markets for many years now, and it makes even less sense than in the North. Anybody interested in this discussion, please write.
